THE BIOLOGICAL CLOCK

Research - The biological clock :

In August 2006, Patrick Musimu started investigating different breathing patterns and
training exercices in order to redefine human physiology.

The results showed a drastic improvement in tolerance of metabolic waste products
(carbone dioxide, ...) as illustrated by the delayed setting off of the breathing reflex
during static breathholding exercices (see graph).

These tests were conducted outside of the water to avoid the interference of the mammalian diving reflex.*

The study ended on November 2007. Results were presented and debated during
the Medical Congress for Underwater Sports in Italy (1-2 December) where Patrick
was invited to expose his training methods.

mammalian diving reflex
: The face submerged into water setts off  a reflex, which
puts the body into oxygen saving mode and consequently maximizes the breath
holding time.

Remark: These figures represent the first body “alarm” signal, not the total
breathholding time.
